In Revenge of the Fallen Ratchet has to carry on with the rest of the Autobots after Optimus Prime is killed by Megatron. After Primes death Ratchet suggests that the Autobots leave Earth but is advised against it by Ironhide.

Ratchet is one of the five Autobots who came to Earth under the leadership of Optimus Prime in the first Transformers movie to retrieve the Allspark and re-energise Cybertron. Ratchet is the Autobots chief medical officer and is on call during battles with the Decepticons to help out any wounded Autobots. The original G1 Ratchet toy transformed from a white ambulance into a robot. The movie version Transformers ratchet toy is an emergency vehicle made from a Humvee. Ratchet is also a strong warrior.
